Dales Bike Centre is a perfect venue for a group mountain biking weekend holiday in the Yorkshire Dales UK.  Swaledale and the Yorkshire Dales is our home and no one knows the mountain biking here like we do. The trails offer the highest concentration of quality bridleways and mountain bike rideable trails anywhere in the Dales.

The Riding

Dales Bike Centre is not a 'Trail Centre' but the 'Centre of Trails' in the Yorkshire Dales.  Using our extensive local knowledge of the natural trails network from our door we can easily put together 4 or 5 days of riding.  You won't find man-made boardwalks, sculpted berms or handbuilt table tops. You will ride through big landscapes, awesome scenery, real adventures on trails that you're not likely to see another rider. One minute it's singletrack not much wider than your tyre, next winching you way up a rocky moorland trail then onto flying down a fast rocky descent with fruity little steps, loose corners and drops to focus the mind. The trails around here drain well due to a predomonantly limestone landscape giving good all weather trails, not much mud around here!

The Guiding

Our professional qualified team of mountain bike guides have many years of mountain biking experience.  All are CTC 'Technical' qualified leaders, first aid qualified and hold other qualifications in the outdoors.   We will ensure your group get the absolute most out of their weekend or day of riding, time is precious afterall. As well as the guiding we also have the support, there's always a support vehicle at the ready to assist with any problems.

You also have the assurance of letting a reputable long established company plan your weekend break.

The Accommodation

Your group mountain biking weekend or holiday is based from Dales Bike Centre in the tiny village of Fremington near Reeth in Swaledale.  This, our purpose built mountain bike centre is set up for mountain bikers to have the most enjoyable experience on offer in the UK.  Accommodation at Dales Bike Centre is very comfortable, smart two and four bedded bunk rooms.  As well as accommodation we have a cafe, bike shop, workshop, secure bike store, bike wash, drying room, laundry, kitchenette, parking and 24hour cake access! Bike hire is available or why not demo one of our Orange Fives, if you're in need of a mountain bike there's always the option of hiring one for the day or weekend. Take a look here for details.

The Food

It's not just about the riding afterall, we know about feeding cyclists, in fact our cafe is listed in the 'Bike Hub' top 20 cycle cafe stops in the UK.  We start with breakfast, cereals or porridge, a cooked option of a great bacon sarnie or scrambled egg on toast along with plenty fruit juice/yoghurt/toast/tea or coffee, that'll get you fuelled up. At the end of your guided ride it's part of mountain bike culture to partake in cake! along with a coffee or tea.  It's part of the refuelling process and you couldn't be at a better place our cafe is famed for great cake.  For evening meals there's four pubs within walking distance all serving good food and great beer, we keep you right as to which is our favourite . Lunch stops will be at a local cafe, maybe ours or maybe another in or around Swaledale. Within our accommodation your room key has access to our cafe lounge and 24hour cake access (honesty pot in place) there's a self catering kitchen with free tea and coffee to help yourself.

*Evening meals and lunches not included within the price.

What bike?

Questions we get asked a lot!  There's a lot of climbing in Swaledale and a lot of fast  steep descents but not so many big jumps and drops.  We ride 'trail bikes' tending to ride either hardtails with 130-140mm forks or full-suspension with 140mm-150mm travel.  Stu the mechanic/MTB Guide rides either a 29er Cotic Soul 120mm travel up front or more often his Orange FIVE.  Ian in the bikeshop rides a Cotic Soul, Nicola one of our MTB Guide/Instructor mainly rides her Ibis MOJO HD3.  Josh our man in the cafe rides Orange FIVE too.

What tyres?

The tyre question.... forget your mud tyres, the trails around here are predominatley rock based.  We tend to ride around a 2.35/2.5 up front, tyres like a Maxxis Minion DHF, Mavic Charge, Maxxis High Roller II, Bontrager XR4.  For the rear something not quite so wide and a bit faster rolling like a Mavic Quest, Maxxis High Roller II or Bontrager XR3.  As you may tell we like Mavic and Maxxis tyres along with Bontrager XR3 & XR4 that's why we sell them in the bike shop here.
